August 8 - Jessica Arrives

This morning we all had a great reunion at the Paris airport. Jessica fought through jet lag incredibly well and we had a nice tour of Paris on her first day.

To begin, we walked through the Louvre and had a picnic on the lawns, followed by a ride on the huge Ferris wheel in the Tuilerries park, which gave us great views of Paris.
Next, we toured through the Orangerie, which features eight huge Monet paintings which fill two rooms. The girls and I had visited this previously, but I loved returning - this may be my favorite museum in Paris!

From the museum we walked along the Seine to the Ile de Cite, where Notre Dame is located. We had fun watching these children get a fencing lesson as part of the Paris du Plage activities.
Notre Dame was quite full of crowds, as it usually is, but sitting in the chairs taking it all in was a nice respite. After viewing the cathedral we took the short bridge across to the next island, Ile Saint Louis, to get ice cream from Berthillion's. Jessica had read in her guidebook that it is the best ice cream in Paris and it did not disappoint us!

For dinner we returned to the appartment and some of Matt's creativity in the kitchen managed to rub off on me while I prepared dinner :)

  1. Welcome, Jessica! It looks like you too, are loving Paris. I wonder if all of you will come home!! Matt said he was glad to be back, but he sure misses everyone. What wonderful weather you have enjoyed and such fun to see the water lilies both in the Musuems and in real life. I am not surprised the girls loved Disneyland there too! I am looking forward to seeing all of you next week at this time, and I hope the girls will have fun with us. Alex and Samantha are excited to see their cousins. Let me know Merideth what your plans are for Sunday night. I assume the girls will sleep here if you plan to work early Monday am. Would you like to be out here for dinner on Sunday or stay downtown by the condo? I hope you can sleep some on the plane, but you probably won't get bumped up to business class like Matt! Enjoy the rest of your adventures. Love, Mom
